Various types of declension of i- and u-stems are discussed in the light of Pedersen-Kuiper's hystero : proterodynamic theory. Main conclusions: -ευς of PIE origin; πρέσβυς is pre-Greek; ῡ in u-stems unlikely to represent older *ēu; the Attic-Ionic type πόληος did not develop on the basis of loc. in *-ēy, but from a hysterodymanic type with nom. in *-ēys
