On the basis of all evidences, it is clear that bhãạã of Panini was a spoken language. Once this conclusion is accepted, it’s natural corollary also will have to be accepted. If this language was on the lips of the people, then it should exhibit the speech habits of the people also. The study of the two concepts from Paninian rules viz. adesa and ãgama is belived to throw light on the speech habits of the people. Really speaking these two concepts are the surest instruments to trace the speech habits. It is therefore proposed to take up the analysis and examination of Päninian rules concerning compounds, roots and sandhi-chapters in the light of âdesa and ãgama. But before we embark on this journey for tracing the speech habits, it is necessary, first of all, to enquire into the nature of âdesa and ägama. In the following chapter, therefore, We attempt to acquaint ourselves with the nature and behaviour of this adesa and agama.
