Johnstone Thomas Muir. Ḥarsūsi lexicon and English-Ḥarsūsi word-list
Oxford University Press, 1977.— xxix, 181 p. — (School of Oriental and African Studies).
Ḥarsūsi is spoken by a limited number of people who live to the north of the Dhofar province of Oman. Although it is closely related to Mehri, it appears likely that the Harasis are of non-Mehri origin and that they adopted the language of their powerful neighbours many generations ago. Just when and where this was must remain open to debate, but it is certain that the Harasis once lived further to the south than they do now. Their speech is closer to that of the Mehra living south of Dhofar than it is to the speech of their immediate Mehri neighbours in Negd in Dhofar and, moreover, in their migration north their speech has been influenced by the language of the mountain people of Dhofar. The English-Harsûsi word-list was composd independently of the lexicon, indeed a good deal earlier than it, but it should function fairly satisfactorily as an index.
