The Australian National University, Research School of Pacific and Asian Studies, 1996. — 434 p. — (Pacific Linguistics: Series D 87).Nowau, or Kitawa (O'Grady and Zisa 1971:1224), is a Melanesian language of the Austronesian group as are other languages of the d'Entrecasteaux Archipelago (Lithgow & Staalsen 1965) today included in Milne Bay Province. It is related to the Boyowa, or Kiriwina, of the Trobriands, and to the Muyuwa spoken on Woodlark Island, to Yanaba and Egum, while it has lesser lexical bonds with both Budibudi, spoken on the island of Laughlan, and with the Misima-Paneati spoken on the island of Alcester and in the village of Boagisa, on the north-west tip of Woodlark.
