Khasi is the language of the Khasi people living in northeastern India (the mountainous regions of Khasi and Jaintia, Meghalaya State) and in neighboring areas of Bangladesh. It forms its own group within the Mon-Khmer languages of the Austroasiatic family. The number of native speakers in India is about 865,000 people, in Bangladesh — up to 100,000 people.
