The name was retained in .a 2nd edition of 1941, a 3rd edition of 1955, and a 3rd edition, Revised, of 1957. The next revisions were called Organic Experiments. 1st Ed. (1964), and 2nd Ed. (1968). With the present edition, the book has gained from the participation of Professor Kenneth L. Williamson as joint author. It is a pleasure to welcome him to a task which I know will be pleasurable, and which I hope will be important.
