Koten is an attempt to construct an international auxiliary language (IAL). Most efforts follow several basic principles: Ease of Acquisition, Cultural Neutrality, Practicality of Use.
Many attempts have been made to these ends, however no constructed language has ever seen widespread adoption as an IAL. Any language sufficiently complete to serve as a fully functional IAL will take the average adult many months to reach full fluency in, and only with a significant and focused intellectual effort. Unfortunately, the effort to learn such a language often serves as an insurmountable barrier to entry for many potential learners, ultimately lowering the rate of language adoption. Therefore, the prime goal of any practical IAL ought to be to lower the barrier to entry to as low a level as possible.
