In the absence of any authoritative basic vocabulary suited to the purpose of such texts, the editor has drawn up a vocabulary of 1,500 words (excluding pronouns, common prepositions, etc.) which seem to him essential. The intention is to publish readers of varying grades of difficulty based on varying proportions of words from the basic vocabulary and also of words outside it.
