Gresswell J.J. Grammatical analysis of the Hebrew Psalter
Oxford: 1873. — 344 p.
The idea of the present elementary work is taken from the Hebrew Reading Lessons, (consisting of the first four chapters of the Book of Genesis, and the eighth chapter of Proverbs, with a Grammatical Praxis, and an Interlinear Translation), by S. P. Tregelles, LL.D.
Its object is to give an exact grammatical analysis of every word in the Book of Psalms, in accordance with the principles laid down in the most recent Hebrew grammars. To this are added (as far as I have been able to discover them) the cognate words in various languages, i. e. Sanskrit, Greek, Latin, German, Anglo-Saxon, and English. I have in several places noticed the various renderings of the LXX., Vulgate, Chaldee, Arabic, Syriac, and Ethiopic Versions, taken principally from Rogers Work on the Psalms.
At the commencement of each Psalm is a short introduction, containing a very brief statement of its subject and of the circumstances under which it was probably composed. In many of the later Psalms I have noticed the Chaldaisms which point to a somewhat late era in the history of the Chosen People.
