In reading scientific textbooks, journals, and technical publications, much valuable time was consumed because of the large number of dictionaries that had to be consulted. Moreover, scientific and technical dictionaries have a surprisingly high rate of obsolescence. It is useless to consult works published as recently as five years ago for terms referring to the latest developments in aviation, radio, and television. A dictionary was needed that would cover all the subjects of a polytechnical curriculum, that would be up to date, particularly in the fields of aeronautics and radio, and would include the chief languages of instruction.
